DECO is a project that uses cell phones to detect cosmic rays and other energetic particles.

You can select data by date, altitude, location (range of latitude and longitude), type of event and/or a specific device. Then you can download a list of properties of the selected events and/or the corresponding images. This website is updated every hour. If you are running the DECO app at this moment, you will be able to look at data taken by your device within an hour of data upload.

Selection Criteria

Data-taking Period

Click on the boxes below to open a calendar. The first day of data-taking was November 1, 2012. Event timestamps are taken from the phone clock. Timestamps prior to November 1, 2012 are likely due to an incorrect phone clock at the time of data taking. All timestamps are Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

-

Altitude

Values are in meters. The flux, or rate, of cosmic rays varies with altitude. Default values indicate allowable range. Negative values indicate that altitude information was not available.

-

Location

Values are in degrees. Define your region by setting the corners of a rectangle on Earth’s surface. Default values encompass the entire Earth. (coordinates are rounded to the nearest 0.01 degree for privacy.) Values of (0, 0) indicate that location information was not available.

Type of Event

You can choose either one or both types of events.

Events (particle interaction candidates)
Minimum bias, or data for background studies

Classification

Classification of each event.

track
worm
spot
noise

Device Model

The device model.

Device ID

You can find your device ID on the DECO screen (yes, it is that long combination of digits!).

Selected data: deco.csv

You can download the full list of events in a CSV format (deco.cv). Below you can take a look at the first 50 results of your selection.
